The Digital Dog Ate My Notes

The article I reviewed discussed research in the digital age using electronic journaling, digital note taking, collaborative concept mapping, and online citation building. Throughout the whole article, the author has hyperlinks so the reader can go directly to those websites and implement their use in classroom. The first step is electronic journaling using microblogs like twitter and blogs. Here readers can share information, brainstorm ideas, and share insights. The author shares two different options on how to incorporate these into the inquiry process. The next step discusses digital note taking. This allows the writer to write pieces and review information at a later time. The author suggests online word processing tools so that their document can be accessed from anywhere. This would be extremely useful in an educational setting. Students would be able to continue work at school that had been started at home. The next step is collaborative concept mapping. The author provides several sites that allow the writer to organize and synthesize the information in a digital visual way. The writer would be able to collaborate online with other readers. The final step is online citation building. Here the writer can enter their sources including the “hard to cite” resources and the citation page is automatically created for them.

I was leery when I began to read this “article”. But I found this article to be one of the most useful I have read during my courses. Providing the links for me to browse through while reading has made this article a great tool. It would be possible to integrate this process into the classroom because of those links.
